Obituary

Bernice Garrison, 92, of Dardanelle died Friday, October 7, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Russelllville. She was born August 18, 1919, at Riley in western Yell County to Ples and Mattie Harris. Her family moved to Carden Bottoms some years later where she married George M. Garrison. They promptly migrated to California where she raised her family, returning to Yell County in 1969. Her entire California family soon followed, all now making Arkansas their home. For many years she was lunchroom manager for Dardanelle Middle School, retiring in 1989 to become a fulltime grandmother, caregiver and counselor to her entire extended family. She will be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers Orman, Eschel, and Edward Harris; sisters Virgie Johnson and Pauline Cook. Survivors include her sons George, Jr. and his wife, Terri, of Atkins, Ron and his wife Trish of London, Irv and his wife Patty of El Dorado, and David Garrison of Dardanelle; daughter Marlene Kuras of Russellville; sister Ruth Allen of Jacksonville; grandchildren Tim Dollar, Sarah Standridge and her sons, Peyton and Luke, Scott Garrison, David Garrison, Vyckie Garrison, and many nieces and nephews, including Shirley Rollins of Dardanelle and others too many to list. Funeral service will be Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. at Centerville First Baptist Church with Brother Jim Whitlock officiating. Burial will be at Moores Chapel Cemetery in Waveland. Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home, Dardanelle. Pallbearers are Ron Garrison, Dennis Cook, Randy Cook, Jason Cook, James Talley and David Garrison of New York. Visitation will be from 5:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. Monday.
