Betty C. Gheen age 95 formerly of Chickalah Mountain passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Chambers Memorial Hospital.

Betty was born December 16, 1926 in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Campbell & Gillian Miller Coomer. She was a mother and homemaker. She was a former secretary of the Ohio Appaloosa Association and former Secretary of the Eastern Appaloosa Turf Club. She was a member of the Yell County Historical Society and she was a Chickalah Fire Department Board Member. She wrote the Chickalah Mountain News for the Yell County Record for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 70 years, Thomas Charles Gheen; daughter, Theresa Lee Gheen; siblings, Macdowell Coomer, Captola Johnson, Dolph Coomer, Floyd Coomer, Fontana Coomer and Wise T. Coomer.

Survivors include her children, Becky & John Shewmake of Danville; Thomas & Laura Gheen of Bentonville; sister Mary Blanton of New Carlisle, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, 2 step-grandson, 1 step-granddaughter,  11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the funeral home.
