Obituary

Betty Jo George of Danville, Ark., passed away on September 21, 2021, at age 87. She was married to Robert "Sunny" George for 66 years. They lived in Tulsa for a short period but spent most of their lives in their beloved Mount George, Ark., where she was also raised. Betty graduated from Ola High School in 1951 and attended the Draughon School of Business in Little Rock. Following her work as secretary at Turley Children's Home and Oklahoma Geological Society, she was a long-time employee at the egg processing plant in Danville and retired from Tyson. An active member of the Mount George Church of Christ, Betty continued to study her Bible and never missed an opportunity to attend worship, ladies' Bible class and gatherings with her church and family for whom she was most proud. She was a Bible class teacher everywhere she went, gardening master, Extension Homemakers club member and fed countless people. You could always count on Betty to bring dressing or cakes to all the church potlucks, college ministry and youth meals, funerals, etc. Her lifelong commitment to service was also evident as she faithfully took care of the cemetery grounds; cooked at Camp Caudle; taught Sunday school; served at the church's Food on the Mount; sent encouragement cards; and never hesitated to help others even when she did not have much or feel well. Betty always cared about doing the right thing. Her selfless example clearly represented the hands and feet of Jesus. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Mary (Bowen) Hames; sisters Jean Campbell of Phoenix and Vernice Utley of Tulsa; and grandson Joshua George.

Betty is survived by her husband Sunny; daughter Elizabeth "Betsi" (Raymond) Henson of Austin, Ark., and Chris (Cathy) George of Danville; grandchildren Robin (Mark) Mizell of Rogers, Nancy (fiancée Juan Morales) Wisdom of Cabot, Nathan (Amanda) George of Russellville, Lee (Andrea) Henson of Hector, and Zac (Christina) George of Russellville; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces Brenda Utley, Cheryl Campbell and Cathy Williams.
