Obituary

Buford L. "Bood" Keathley, age 66 of Danville, passed away January 18, 2014. He was born June 10, 1947 to the late Dickie and Mary Nell Keathley. A lifelong Methodist and Democrat, Bood worked tirelessly for his family and his community. Bood was vice president of Chambers Bank in Danville and was appointed by Governor Mike Beebe to the Arkansas Rural Development Commission in April 2013. He was voted Citizen of the Year in 2008, and was instrumental in helping with the Millsap Community Center and the Danville courthouse renovation. Bood was a member of the Yell County Quorum Court, past member of Danville City Council, member of Danville Lions Club, past member of Yell County Equalization Board, member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. He has organized programs for the past thirteen years though Chambers Bank to honor the Veterans of Yell County. He has been involved every year in helping all of our area schools through his work at Chambers Bank from helping obtain land for sports fields to organizing spelling bees and speak up contests. He was especially proud of recently helping obtain rural fire grants for Yell County fire departments through his work on the Arkansas Rural Development Commission. Bood attended Danville High School and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. The town of Danville has truly been blessed to have had this man who cares about others and who often put their needs above his own. Our family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Mitchell Nursing Home for their love, care, and compassion. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sarah Johnson Keathley, daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Scott Snider of Little Rock, Elizabeth and Bobby Rehm of Russellville, son Matthew Benson of Fayetteville, future daughter-in-law Maggie Hobbs of Little Rock, and grandchildren Keathley, Mary McKenzie, and Pearson Snider and Eliza Rehm.
