Bryce Jackson Mobley, age 79 of Dover, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Arkansas Heart Hospital. He was born November 23, 1943 in Russellville, Arkansas to the late Bryce Mobley and Linnie "Nootsie" Walker Mobley.
Bryce grew up in Dardanelle and graduated from High School in 1962. He joined
the Air Force and served 4 years in Darmstadt, Germany and Karachi, Pakistan.
Upon his return he attended Arkansas Tech University, earning a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Business in 1969. He continued his studies and became the first
graduate of a Concrete Technology program at Northeastern Junior College in
Sterling, Colorado.
Upon his completion, he returned to work at Mobley Construction Company, a
family business specializing in sand and gravel and ready-mix concrete. Before
moving to the headquarters in Morrilton, he worked in the Newport plant for two
years as a dredge worker, mixer truck driver, tow boat deck hand, and pilot.
Bryce was a very active community volunteer receiving numbers recognitions.
Awards included a Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary where he served in numerous
leadership positions. He was the 1987 Morrilton Chamber of Commerce and Arkansas Community Development Citizen of the Year. In 1998 he received both the Earle Love Business Leader of the Year as well as a Sam Walton Business Leader Award.
He served on various state and local boards. In 1978, Bryce served President of
the Arkansas Ready-Mix Association; also, in 1977-1978 he served as chairman of
the Boy Scouts of America Foothills District.
In the 1980s Governor Bill Clinton appointed Bryce to the Arkansas Pollution
Control and Ecology Commission Board where he later served as chairman. He
served on the board of the Morrilton Chamber of Commerce and was President
1986.
He served two terms on the Morrilton City Council. Vision 20/20 was a special
project for him. The group was focused on community development. Off shoots
of this was a Leadership Training program and the School Counts Program. In
recent years Bryce also served on the Arkansas Tech Foundation Board.
Bryce traveled to Guyana, South America for almost 20 years with his wife Carol,
supporting Project Dawn. It was a volunteer medical project that brought
specialist physicians from the states to provide services not available in the
country. Vacations from work were spent there and lifelong friends were made.
Bryce loved the water – canoes, kayaks, boating, and later (thanks to his wife)
horses. Together they participated in competitive trail rides. They also enjoyed
horse pack trips, riding in the Sacred Valley of Peru, Colorado, Yellowstone, and
the Bob Marshall Wilderness in Montana.
With great passion and detail, he built scale replicas of the Mobley Construction
Towboat and barge fleet. He also built a scale model of the Mary Woods II a boat
that hauled lumber on the White River and later became a museum moored at
Jacksonport State Park. The model was gifted to the state park.
Bryce was smart, humble, kind, generous with a great sense of humor. He will be
missed.
