Carroll was born April 8, 1931 at the family farm in Edmond, Oklahoma, to Arthur W. and Lena (Vessadini) Olson. Shortly after graduating from Arcadia High School, Carroll joined the National Guard, 45th Division. His unit was mobilized in 1950, serving in Korea and Japan. After his military discharge, he began veterinary school at Oklahoma A&M (now OSU). He received his doctorate of veterinary medicine degree in 1957. After a short practice in Tulsa, he began working in poultry inspection, first in Minnesota, then in Danville, Arkansas. Dr. Olson began working for Joe Ray Poultry in 1961, the first on-site veterinarian with a poultry company. After a short time as a state veterinarian at Oaklawn Race track, he returned to poultry inspection and the Danville area. He retired in 1992, with over 30 years serving the USDA. He was active in area Jaycee, Lions Club, and Ruritan. Dr. Olson was instrumental in providing the softball complex for area youth. He was very proud of the young baseball players and often sponsored teams. He spoke often of the championship team of 1989. Retirement brought many new opportunities, often using his trademark "Azygous" in the name. Dr. Olson grew hydroponic tomatoes, row crops, poultry, and cattle. He was president of the Catfish Farmers of Arkansas. He built a new home using residential steel components. He began a travel agency, which he thoroughly enjoyed, becoming an expert on the tourist venues of Australia, which he visited numerous times. Even as arthritis began to curtail his activities, he maintained his large gardens and fish pond. Dr. Olson was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dr. Arthur L. Olson, sister Dr. Anita C. Olson, and one niece Janet Marie Dennis. Carroll is survived by older sister Mary M. Bloomer, and younger sister Donna C. Suenram and husband Charles, all of Edmond, Oklahoma. Nieces Christina Kiser (Dean), Joy Self (Jack), and Cindy Roof (Dewey) and one nephew Chris Suenram (Cindy) also survive him.
