Charles Burrell Smith Sr. age 76 of Dardanelle died Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at his home. He was born December 16, 1941 at Batesville to the late Lewis B. and Lorene B. Nelson Smith. He was the Director of Yell County 911. He loved boats and spent a large amount of his life working on boats, he worked for the Corp of Engineers, was captain on several passenger vessels, Arkansas Explorer and the Border Star; he was a Mississippi River Pilot and towboat captain for over twelve years, worked for the Yell County Office of Emergency Management where he won the Coordinator of the Year Award for the State of Arkansas and was instrumental in getting the 911 Emergency Services for Yell County.

He was a devoted grandfather and spent all his free time with his grandchildren, Cindy and Charlie. He loved watching Sand Lizard football, especially his number 63.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Hodges Smith of Dardanelle; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles B. Smith Jr. and wife Angela of Dardanelle; multiple grandchildren, Charlie Smith III of Dardanelle, Cindy Smith of Dardanelle, Elana Page Smith, and Ross Smith; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Susie Hodges, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph and Barbara Mulder; other children, Lori Liles, Kelly Renfroe, Charles R. Smith, multiple great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Friday, June 8, 2018 at Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Dardanelle with Paul Farnam officiating. Burial will be private in Durvin Cemetery due to lack of parking. Visitation will be held Friday, 10:00A.M. to 11:00A.M. at the chapel prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Mark Thone, Ralph Mulder, Jimmy Witt, Melvin Jackson, LeRoy Randall, Sammy Johnson and Scott Moore.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Yell County and Larry Hodges.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dardanelle Sand Lizards Football Boosters.
