Obituary

Charley "Wayne" Bowman, age 80 of Delaware, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born July 28, 1944 in Claremore, Oklahoma to the late Jesse Charles Bowman and Zazzle Irene Knight Bowman. Wayne was a Little league baseball and softball coach, a Deacon, youth leader, Sunday school teacher, choir member at Delaware First Baptist Church in Delaware, Arkansas. Before his health turned for the worse, he attended the United Methodist Church in Dardanelle, Arkansas. He volunteered at The Caring & Sharing Food Pantry in Dardanelle, Arkansas after retiring from the telephone company. He worked 42 plus years with the telephone company in various locations. He rarely missed work and was a CWA member. A volunteer firefighter in Delaware. He was an Independence Community College football player, where he met his wife, Judi Harvey and worked at the Independence Kansas Zoo while attending college. They married on January 25, 1964. He graduated from Claremore HS in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was an avid gardener, just not with grapevines. He was desperately sentimental, he never met a stranger. Wayne was always his children and grandchildren's biggest fan and supporter. He rarely missed a game that his children played in. He was always polite, friendly to everyone, had the biggest, kindest heart. His patience was astounding, you could never tell if he got upset when you made a mistake. When he loved, he loved with every part of his being. He will be missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Sanford Duffey; one sister, Joan Savage; grandchild, Erin Bowman and daughter-in-law, Sheryl Bowman.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Judi Bowman of Delaware; three children, Todd Bowman (Karen) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Trevor Bowman of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Melissa Bowman of Russellville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Chance Bowman (Rachel) of Crossville, Tennessee, Raegan Bowman of Knoxville, Tennessee, Casey Bowman (Matthew) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Allie Burgess (Austin) of Springdale, Arkansas, Brett Bowman of Russellville, Arkansas; one great grandchild, Oliver Bowman of Crossville and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, 5:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. at Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Dardanelle.
