Danny Lee
Reed
January 9, 1960 – October 21, 2020
Danny L. Reed, age 60, of Ola, AR departed this Earth to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, October 21, 2020. He was born on January 9, 1960 at St. Mary's hospital in Russellville, AR to Bearl Eugene Reed and Lucy Ila Ware Reed. Danny married the love of his life, Donna Mae Frost, on June 10, 2006. Matt and Kayla Hulsey were the kids Danny had always wanted and he loved them like his own. He had one brother, Randy Reed (Susan) of Lonsdale, AR, a niece, Carrie Gifford (Jeff), and great-nieces Emma and Laney Gifford of Bigelow, AR, and a father-in law, Dan Frost of Dardanelle, AR. Although he had no grandchildren, he thoroughly enjoyed his role as "Grumpsy" and spoiling his grand-dogs.
Danny graduated from Dardanelle High School in 1978. He earned his B.S. in Parks and Recreation in 1984 from Arkansas Tech University. He proudly served in the military (AR Army National Guard) for 20 ½ years and retired at the rank of Major. He served as the 217 th Maintenance Battalion supply officer during the Operation Desert Storm Conflict, alongside his fellow Patriots, and was awarded the Bronze Star and other awards for his efforts. Danny was employed by Entergy in 1985 and served as a Unit 2 Operations waste control operator and trainer until he retired in 2015. In 30 years of employment Danny took one day of sick leave. He enjoyed training many operators, who are employed at multiple nuclear plants around the country and was awarded with numerous Peak Performer Awards.
Danny appreciated nature and all God's creations, as witnessed in his conversations. He would arise at 4:30am each day, as to not miss the sunrise. He spent every possible moment he could outdoors. His favorite hobby was archery. He and "Old Nelly", his trusted compound bow, were blessed to travel various places to hunt, including Alaska, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge held a special place in Danny's heart, as the place he hunted most. He was blessed with great hunting friends and family to share his experiences with including Greg Shelton of Virginia, Reuben Balli of New Mexico, and so many Hunter Friends of Arkansas. His most memorable hunts were calling in his Uncle Lee's first turkey at the age of 91, calling in his wife's first turkey on their Ozone hunting property, and calling in his brother's first turkey. He was a member of the AR Bowhunters Association. His 27-point, non-typical whitetail, "Phantom", continues to hold the record at Holla Bend. He started collecting archery broadheads in 2015 and was a member of the American Broadhead Collectors Club. He was very proud of the collection he amassed. He noted that his favorite group of broadheads were Ben Pearson's, which were made in Pine Bluff, AR from 1936 to 1974.
Danny also enjoyed hybridizing registered daylilies. He was a member of a local Daylily Club. He, his mother and wife spent many years establishing "Reed's Rocks and Roots" and conducted annual Daylily Tours in mid June at their Dover Residence.
Danny was a faithful member of Plainview Free Will Baptist Church in Plainview, AR, where he attended and worshipped with family and wonderful friends.
Danny took pride in all things: his personal relationship with God, his family, relationships with others, service to his country, his work and hobbies. He worked hard to excel at every aspect of life. Danny left this earthly life with the same faith, fearlessness, and passion as he had lived it!
