December 10, 1941 – March 24, 2024
Dorris "DB" Broom of Ola, passed away on March 24, 2024, at the age of 82. He was born on December 10, 1941, in Egypt, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his father, Lester "Red" Broom; his mother, Sylvia Broom McDaniel and his sisters, Mary Simmons and Gusta Neal all of Wichita, Kansas.
In 2020, he retired from Deltic Timber as a security guard. He was an avid fisherman and weather permitting, he was blessed to go fishing nearly every day of his life after his retirement, sometimes more than one trip to Nimrod or King Fisher. He also enjoyed many trips to Pratt, Kansas and South Dakota to hunt for Pheasants with his brother, sons and nephews.
DB is survived by his son, Wayne Broom of Dardanelle; daughter, Pam Chambers of Lonoke; son, Michael Broom (Michele) of Atkins; daughter, Michelle Spears of Dardanelle; sister, Glenda Griggs of Spokane, Washington; brother, Pat Broom (Ann) of Park City, Kansas. DB was blessed to have two "bonus" daughters; his daughter-in-law, Michele Broom was very special to him, he considered her to be his daughter. His second "bonus" daughter, is Caryl Parrish Fowler of Ranger; a life-long family friend. Through times of illness, his bonus daughters were very involved in family support and companionship. Papaw DB is survived by seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the wonderful staff at CARTI of Russellville and Dr. Andrew Briggler, the staff of St. Mary's Cancer Center and Dr. Samuel Hughes. Also the caregivers at Chambers Home Health, and the loving staff of Arkansas Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00P.M., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Nimrod Dam Road Pavilion.
