Dwight Randall (Randy) Woody of Dardanelle, Arkansas went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 15, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born June 23, 1947, in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Bill and Mamie Woody of Greenwood, Arkansas. Randy attended and graduated (May 1965) from Greenwood Public Schools where he was active in school, FFA, and sports. He then attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and received his BSBA (1970) and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He entered active duty on May 30th, 1970, and attended undergraduate navigator training. Upon attaining his wings, Randy was assigned to combat crew training as a weapon system officer in the F4 Phantom II. After completing basic, water, and jungle survivor training, he deployed to the Southeast Asia theater in 1971 and saw action with the 555 Tactical Fighter Squadron. After his return, Randy remained active in the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992 after 20 years of service to his Country. Randy’s military awards included the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, and numerous other awards and medals. Randy also had a long career with the United States Postal Service holding a variety of supervisory and managerial positions in Greenwood, Arkansas, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and then retired as the Postmaster of Russellville, Arkansas. During his years at Russellville, Randy was also a Rotarian serving as a Director, Club Treasurer, and President. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, three brothers (Jack, Jim, and Charles) as well as one sister (Myra.) He is survived by his loving wife Brenda Hilton Woody, daughter Randi-Kaye and husband Tom Koula, daughter Kathy and husband Justin Ahne, and the great joys of his life, his three grandsons, Kody, Wyatt, and Tristan. He is also survived by his brother Tim Woody and wife Peggy, sister- in-law Joan Woody, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Randy, a proud Veteran, loved America and he and Brenda had wonderful trips across the Country. A true cowboy at heart, he loved trail riding, raising his horses and shooting Cowboy Action Competitions with The Single Action Shooters Society where he was fondly known as “Pony Express Rider.” Randy professed his Christian Faith as a boy and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Greenwood, Arkansas. He and Brenda are active members of the Dardanelle Methodist Church.
Visitation will be at Cornwell Funeral Home in Dardanelle, Arkansas on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 5-7pm. He will be buried at the Ft. Smith National Cemetery, Ft. Smith, Arkansas with full military honors on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 11:00-11:30 a.m.
