The Lord called a sweet servant home May 19, 2014. Dorothy EffieGene Morris Stapleton, age 81, lived a complete and Christ-centered life. Her passing leaves great sorrow, but her joy lives on within her family. Nothing on this earth was more important to her than her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her great happiness, and she counted all of her family great blessings from the Lord. At age 16 she became a charter member of Ranger Free Will Baptist Church, and at the time of her death she was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Russellville. EffieGene was preceded in death by her parents, JB and Frances Bullock Morris, one sister, Lenore Hall, and six brothers -- Norman, John Delbert, James, Ray, AD, and Arnold Morris. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Rev. Earl Stapleton; four daughters, LaJean Wilson and husband Chuck of Danville, Lisa Sponel and husband David of Dardanelle, Sheila Trusty and husband Jim Bob of Danville, Kim Foster and husband Marvin of Russellville; and one son, Frank Stapleton, and wife Renee of Hot Springs. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Chip Wilson and wife Alison of Springdale, CaraJean Loyd and husband Matt of Russellville, Marissa Trusty of Russellville, Jay Trusty of Danville, Andrea Foster of Russellville, Lindsay James and husband Jeremiah of Jonesboro, Chance Packard and wife Ashley of Hot Springs, and Drew Packard and wife Kristi of Bentonville; seven great-grandchildren, Cash Wilson, Will Wilson, and Mick Wilson, Abby James, Blakely Packard, Gage Packard, and AJ Packard. EffieGene is survived by one brother, Lee Morris, and wife Mary of Hot Springs, three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Morris, Willa Morris Kennedy, and Susie Morris Harter, and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Most of her working career was spent managing the office of the Yell County Board of Education for 26 years, retiring in 1998. Despite the long hours of work and caring for a large family, she could always be counted on to bake a birthday, shower, or wedding cake. Her cakes were works of art and so delicious that they became known throughout the community as "EffieGene Cakes". As a pastor's wife for decades, she was a friend to those who needed comfort, always ready to provide a meal and a sympathetic ear. She served along with her husband in the ministry God had given them. She loved nature and the beauty of God's creation, which she expressed through her creative talents as a poet, seamstress, and cook. Visitation will be at Cornwell Funeral Home in Danville from 6-8 on Tuesday, May 20.
