Obituary

Elmeda Martha Drewry Cleveland, age 97, passed peacefully Saturday morning April 27, 2024. She was born in Logan County, Arkansas on August 17, 1926 to Roy Drewry and Isa Pearl Parsons Drewry. She grew up in the Dardanelle, Arkansas area during the height of the Great Depression. She took a bus at age 17 to Wichita, Kansas and worked at an airplane factory during WW2. There she met the love of her life, Grover Armon Cleveland, and they were married April 9, 1949.

They raised their son and daughter in the Wichita area but later moved back to Arkansas and made their home in Dardanelle. Over the years, she showed her love to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren through cooking, sewing clothes and making beautiful hand-made quilts. She was a member of the Dardanelle Missionary Baptist Church.


She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband of 62 years and 5 siblings, Mildred Carter, LaVern Ward, Leroy Drewry, Charles Gatlin & Bobby Gatlin.
She is survived by one son, Gary Cleveland and his wife Cindy of Russellville, one daughter, Debbie Young and her husband Glen of Dover, 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grand children, several nieces, nephews and cousins.


Service will be held at Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Dardanelle, Tuesday, April 30th at 2 p.m. It will be officiated by the Reverend Chuck Trusty. Family graveside service will immediately follow at Brearley Cemetery.
