Floyd Leon Cates

Floyd Leon Cates, age 84, of Russellville, Arkansas, passed away on June 28, 2026 at his home.

He was born on October 7, 1941, in Five Mile, Arkansas, to the late John W. Cates and Sarah F. Richardson Cates. Floyd was raised as the son of a sharecropper and learned the value of hard work at an early age. Throughout his life, he held various jobs, including working on the Greer's Ferry and later retired from the Highway Department and from Harp's.

Floyd attended Rehoboth Assembly of God and enjoyed going to church. He

had a deep love for horses and especially enjoyed visiting the sale barn to watch the animals.

In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his siblings, Lillian Engleman, Lucy Reeves, Elmer Lancaster, Marvin Cates, Lewis Cates, Violet Webb, and Lloyd Glenn Cates.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 58 years, Lola Martin Cates; his two sons, Darrell Cates and David Cates; his grandchild, Chris Cates; along with numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Floyd will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for his family, his faith, and the simple joys he found in life.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00P.M., Friday, July 3, 2026 at Rehoboth Assembly of God.
