June 24, 1932 – July 15, 2023
Gordon Edward Brown, age 91 of Russellville, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born June 24, 1932 in Hughes, Arkansas to the late John D. Brown and Estelle Taylor Brown. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He was also an All American for the Louisiana Tech Football Team and was later drafted by the Saint Louis Cardinals in the National Football League. After playing in the NFL for a few years, he signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. After football, Gordon became director of the boys and girls club in Lamesa, Texas and then got involved with parks and recreation in Russellville, Arkansas then in Norwood, Ohio for many years. Gordon also worked for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gordon Edward "ED" Brown Jr; siblings, Elzena Brown, Ray Brown, Joe Brown; son-in-law, John "Buzz" Daugherty and a grandson, Michael Daugherty.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Ann Brown of Russellville; three children, Crystal Ann Courtney – Brown (Wes Stroe), Elizabeth Kay Daugherty all of Russellville, Barbara Jo Boyne (Tim) of Cincinnati; thirteen grandchildren, Danny Lynn Bunting, Dustin Bunting (Brittney), Derek Bunting, Courtney Kinder (Kai), James Daugherty, Pierce Boyne (Amy), Evan Boyne (Rachel), Anna Boyne, Joshua Aaron Saylors, Jonathan Maxwell Rankin, Laurita Palusko, Dylan Dixon, Carmen Hood and twenty great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00P.M., Sunday, July 30, 2023 at the River Park Church of Christ in Russellville.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center, Arkansas Hospice and Dardanelle Nursing and Rehab Center for their kindness and excellent care. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jeff Yates, Dr. Shuja Rasool and staff for their care through the years.
