Obituary

Jack Lewis Wilson was born on April 22, 1923 to Lynn William & Maude Allie Lewis Wilson. He received his ultimate healing in Heaven on April 28, 2014. He was raised in Danville right across from the Baptist Church and graduated from Danville, as did his younger sister, the late Lynnette Wilson Thorp. He attended OBU but joined the Navy and was stationed near New Caledonia on a ship for two years. After this he returned to Danville and married his true love, Joyce Carolyn Nelson, in July of 1946. He became a rural mail carrier, the only job he ever had. He and nurse Joyce raised Martha and Jack Jr., and was able to attend their sporting events, including 4 years at Tech football watching Little Jack. Martha married Robert in 1973, and they had two grandchildren for Jack and Joyce. They built a home near Jack's, two lovely homes in the woods. Tragedy struck Jack's seemingly charmed life in 1990 when Lindsey Margaret Burks' life was cut short. The town of Danville held its breath, but life went on. Jack's longevity allowed him to rack up some amazing statistics: 25 years volunteer fireman, 27 years coaching Little League, 20 years on hospital board, 10 years on the school board, over 30 years teaching Sunday School, 27 years of Sunday School without missing, 61 years of announcing Little John football (only 2 games missed) over 20 years of refereeing basketball, and 629 homemade turkey calls given away, a result of his hobby. Jack and Joyce had 60 years of marriage, but he lost Joyce in 2004. He continued to fish and hunt and lived alone until his illness in late Oct. 2013. His family honored his request to remain at home, where he breathed his last on April 28. He is survived by his daughter Martha and her husband Robert, his son Jack Jr, his grandson Wilson and his family Kyla, Matt & Kynlee, his brother-in-law Matt Thorp and his daughter Lynn of Washington, DC, and many Nelson, George and Lewis nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Danville Little John Stadium conducted by Tom Sullinger. Burial at Earl Ladd Cemetery. Visitation will be at 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Danville Methodist Church Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Danville United Methodist Church PO Box 729 Danville, Arkansas 72833. Pallbearers include Steve Pfeifer, Brad Taylor, Dr. Mike Johnston, Andy Tackett, James Mitchell, Joe Monroe and Phillip Alexander. Pallbearers in memoriam Bood Keathley and Bill Alexander. Honorary Pallbearers include Tommy Papasan, Paul Carter, Scott Peek, James Dill, Dr. Phillip Tippin, Greg Hill, John Tom Walker, Ed Taylor, Tom Johnson, Johnny Chambers and members of Sarah Freeman Sunday School Class.
