Obituary

Jack Lewis Wilson Jr., "Little Jack," was born in Memphis, TN. to Jack and Joyce Wilson, his parents. He was welcomed at home in Danville by his big sister, Martha Lynn. He led a childhood full of sports, fishing, bird, squirrel, rabbit, deer and turkey hunting – following in Big Jack's footsteps. A lefty, he excelled in sports, winning the Punt, Pass, and Kick contests at least four years in a row. He played basketball, baseball, football, and then track, where he has held and still holds the discus and shot put records since 1969. A full scholarship to Arkansas Tech University was available, so after graduating from Danville High School he began four more years of football, in addition to playing two more years of Tech baseball and one year of Tech tennis. He is the only DHS graduate ever to have played three college sports. His other passion in collage was his Cavalier fraternity, men still loved by Jack.

After graduation, his life changed. He was diagnosed with manic depression, or bi-polar disorder. His mind was now challenged with devastating illness. He taught and coached in Arkadelphia and Beaumont, Texas. Jack worked in Arkadelphia at Brosch Brothers and then for Petit Jean Poultry.

He fought physically and mentally for the last 15 years and found his best "last home" at Mitchell's.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Joyce Wilson, his brother-in-law, Robert Burks, his precious niece, Lindsey Margaret Burks, and a partner in fun and crime, Danny "Spud" Mathis.

He is survived by his sister, Martha Lynn, his nephew, Wilson Burks and wife Kyla, his great niece and nephew, Kynlee and Matthew Burks all of Danville.

Pallbearers are Rodger Magness, Larry Prescott, Duke Briley, Juddy Tolson, John Tom Walker, Mark Maughn, Butch Tackett and Nathan George. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Edwards and Earl Stapleton.

Jack passed away peacefully at Chambers Hospital surrounded by folks who loved him on August 26th. Visitation will be Thursday, August 28 at 1:00 pm with service led by Tom Sullinger at 2:00 pm at the  Danville United Methodist Church . Private burial.
