James Martin
Potz
September 7, 1953 – January 20, 2022
James Martin Potz, age 68 passed away on January 20, 2022.
Jim was born September 7, 1953 in Mankato, Mn to parents, Harlan J. Potz and Margaret I. Potz He attended school in Eagle Lake, Mn and in the Minneapolis, Mn area schools. As a teen he relocated to the Russelville, Arkansas area along with his brother. There he and his brother helped to build the Potz family home on Linker Mountain in Dover, Arkansas. After the death of his parents he moved into an apartment in Russelville. He is preceded in death by his loving parents. He is survived by sisters, Barbara Cleare (Mark) and MaryJane Wayman (Mike); brother, Steven Potz, and many nieces and nephews.
He was limited by his health and so in general he enjoyed working alone on his own ventures. He bought and sold antiques. With a passion for gardening he raised large vegetable gardens and sold to the local outdoor markets. He made some beautiful oak woven baskets, which were shown in an article written by Catherine Boutz, posted in the Courier of Russellville for May of 1997. He did many woodworking projects in the family home, also for friends and for hire. As a child and teen he raced quarter midget cars and three quarter midget cars in Mn, IA and WI as a member of the Quarter Midget Club of America. He also was a good mechanic. A friend said he was unique; and yes he was a man of many talents, many of which were self taught. Although a very private man he enjoyed sharing with those he met while working on his numerous projects. He had a strong belief in the Christian faith and spoke of it often. He also had a good sense of humor and loved to tell a story. His memory will be carried on with love by all of us. May his memory be a blessing.
There will be a small ceremony for the immediate family at a later date.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of
contributions to your local food shelf.
