Janis Kay
George
September 18, 1955 – December 14, 2019
Janis Kay Dixon George, age 64 of Centerville passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019, after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer. She was born September 18, 1955 at Russellville, Arkansas, the daughter of mother Ina Mae Mercer Dixon, and her father, Donald Pullen Dixon, who precedes her in death.
In addition to her mother, Jan is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Nathan V. George of Centerville; her three children, Jon-Nathan George (Brandy) of Russellville, Jason George (Amber) of Centerville, and Janae Pate (Aaron) of Dardanelle; her four grandchildren, Jaxon George, Braxton Ferguson, Skylar Pate, and Jayden George; and her three brothers, Greg Dixon (Becky) of Ola, Steve Dixon (Pam) of Russellville, and Michael Dixon (Judy) of Ola.
Jan was a member of the Ola Free Will Baptist Church.
Jan's role in life was that of a teacher. She always knew this, so it came as no surprise when she graduated from Arkansas Tech with a master's degree and began guiding and shaping young lives, first in the Ola Public Schools from 1977-1985, then in the Dardanelle Public Schools for over 24 years from 1995 until her retirement in 2019. Over her long career, "Mrs. George's" elementary school students would go on to graduate, get jobs and families of their own, and many remained lifelong friends. She loved it when the children of her former students became her second-generation pupils.
But despite the important mark Jan left on the education of Yell County students, Jan's greatest life lessons were passed along to her three children. From Jan they learned the value of nurturing, of unconditional love, and of unwavering support, the cornerstones for a mother and a teacher. Jan's legacy will live on as her children pass these important qualities on to her beloved grandchildren. Jan touched the lives of so many, and we are all better because of her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00P.M., Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Dardanelle with John David Keeling officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 5:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle. Burial will be in Mt. George Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Pate, Michael Dee McCormick, Brandon Baugh, John Barry Helton, Clayton Bryson, and Wayne Williams.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dardanelle School District Employees.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jan George Memorial Scholarship Fund, 600 Union Street, Dardanelle, Arkansas 72834 or the Ola Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 414, Ola, Arkansas 72853.
