Jean Robin
Tarshis
June 23, 1943 – November 23, 2025
Jean "JR" Tarshis of Los Angeles, California passed away Sunday November 23 at Paris Health and Rehabilitation. JR was a father, a proud grandfather, and a joyful great-grandfather whose presence brought humor, and warmth to those who knew him.
JR spent much of his life working as a printer, creating Christmas cards with a craftsman's pride and a careful eye for detail. It suited him well—he was often described as a "jolly old elf," always happy, always ready with a smile or a laugh that could lift anyone's spirits. Earlier in life, he even worked as a deckhand on a pirate ship, an adventure he loved to share with a twinkle in his eye and stories that never failed to entertain.
His joy in bringing happiness to others extended far beyond his work. For years, JR volunteered as a clown, the Easter Bunny, and Santa Clause for the children's hospital, sharing laughter, comfort, and magic with children and families who needed it most.
He also had a deep love for riding Clydesdale horses, finding joy, peace, and freedom in the strength and gentleness of those magnificent animals.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman; his mother, Ester; and his beloved wife, Sonia, whom he missed deeply and spoke of often.
He is survived by his daughter Robyn, his son-in-law Brian, and the grandchildren he cherished deeply: Annalisa and her husband Micah Norgaard, and Harley and his wife Maddison Goins. JR's legacy continues in his great-granddaughters, Brecklie and Sofie, who brought him immense joy and could brighten his day in an instant.
JR will be remembered for his cheer, his kindness to strangers, and the way he loved his family. His laughter, his stories—from the print shop to the pirate ship—and his gentle, joyful spirit will be held close in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to share life with him.
