In Loving Memory of Jerry Louis Thompson Sr.

Jerry Thompson Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on January 27, 2026. He was born February 18,1957 in Dardanelle, Arkansas to the late James Edward Thompson Sr. and Josephine Mildred Jackson Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Danny, Joe and Loretta. Jerry was a member of the Dardanelle Missionary Baptist Church. He was a devoted educator, coach, and beloved family member, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and service that spans more than 30 years.

For three decades, Jerry Thompson taught and coached with unwavering commitment, shaping not only minds and skills, but character. In the classroom and on the track, Coach Thompson was known for patience (sometimes), encouragement, and the rare ability to see potential in every student. Countless young people were influenced by his guidance, lessons, and belief that hard work and kindness go hand in hand.

Jerry was deeply devoted to his family, close friends and loved ones. He loved big, loud and hard; he was a steady presence, and a source of unconditional support. His greatest joys were shared laughter, quiet moments, family gatherings, and seeing and hearing about the success of the ones he coached and taught.

Coach T believed in the power of relationships between teacher and student, coach and athlete, and above all, family and loved ones. His impact will continue to be felt in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the example he set.

Jerry is survived by his two sons Jerry Thompson Jr., Jerome and Jessica Thompson, two sisters Donna Diggs, and Laura Thompson and six grandchildren, Makhya, Amayah, Kahliah, Jianna, Chloe and Xavier along with nieces and nephews as well as generations of former students and athletes who will forever carry his influence forward.

Celebration of life for Coach Thompson visitation services will be held on Friday February 6th from 6pm - 8pm  at the Hughes Center in Russellville. Funeral for Coach will be held Saturday February 7th at 2pm at Cornwell funeral home, following grave site service. Repast will be held at Unity Missionary Baptist Church.
