Obituary

Jim Corbin Jimmy Dale Corbin age 73 of Russellville, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Jim was the son of the late Arley Lester and Louna Lucille Payne Corbin. He was born March 19, 1942 on Huckleberry Mountain. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Danville. Jim was a graduate of Danville High School, where he excelled in sports and was voted Best Athlete in Who's Who. He earned the name "Swish" Corbin from his basketball skills. He was a fullback on the football team and excelled in the high hurdles on the track field. He excelled in another non-school sport, bareback riding in the rodeo, where he earned a gold buckle. He remained an avid Little John Fan but also loved the Razorbacks, enjoying them on TV. Along with being a member of the Danville National Guard, Jim began his job at Firestone. He learned the complicated skill of curing tubes on his first day there. He became supervisor and stayed for 38 years. He was the first one to arrive and often the last one to leave in the evening. Jim was not one to be idle in his retired years. He volunteered many hours at the Eagles Club, where he was on the Board of Trustees. He loved the charities the Eagles raised money for, and often prepared meals there. He also cooked at the Chickalah Mountain Hunting Club. He loved to hunt turkey and deer, and was expected to provide the deer meat at the LARGE Corbin family gatherings. Jim is survived by his children, James Allen "Little Jim" Corbin of Dover, Melissa (Dave) Markis of Jacksonville, Florida, and Courtney Corbin of Russellville; brothers, Don (Joyce) of Dardanelle, Bob (Claudia) of Danville; sisters, Billie White and Jo Spears of Grenada, Missippi and Mary Ann (Phil) Moudy of Danville; brother-in-law, Billy Sullivant of Little Rock. He was preceded in death by A.L. and Maxine Corbin, John "Babe" Corbin, Thelma Sullivant and brother-in-law, Hubert Spears. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Austin and Lauryn Markis of Florida; many nieces and nephews, his little buddy Josh VanOhlen and his devoted dog Sophie.
