John William "Jack" Thomas Jr., age 89 of Mt. George, Arkansas, passed away August 25, 2025 at Arkansas Heart Hospital. He was born December 9, 1935 in Goshen, New York to the late John William Thomas Sr. and Charlotte Tietgen Thomas. Jack graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Agriculture Business in 1957. Because of his love for agriculture, Jack was deeply invested in the Arkansas agriculture community. He was awarded the Jaycee Outstanding Young Farmer Award and the Arkansas Pork Producers Distinguished Service Award in 1999. Jack and his family were awarded Farm Family of the Year in 1969. He served on several boards: Yell County Farm Bureau Board for 64 years, Farm Credit Board for 31 years, Arkansas Farm Bureau Board for 4 years, Beef Check Off Board for 6 years, Farm Family Selection Committee for numerous years, and served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Northeast Yell County Water Association in 1990. Jack was also the President of the Yell County Cattleman's Association for numerous years. Jack was a member of the Agri Bank District Credit Council Eagle Club from 2004-2005. He was also awarded an honorary state FFA degree in 2003. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lea Plummer.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Doris Jean Standridge Thomas; two children, Kathy Reece (Don), John Thomas (Becky); two sisters, Sue Thomas, Grace Norris; grandchildren, Kristin Reddin (Dawson), Daniel Parker (Sydni), Kaleb Reece, Jordan Frost (Lane), Hunter Thomas (Darby) and great grandchildren, Skylen, Luke, Blair, Brady, Hoyt, Beckett, Hudson and Fletcher.
Visitation will be held Friday, 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. at Cornwell Funeral Home in Danville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Yell County Fair Association, 1002 East 8th Street, Danville, Arkansas 72833.
