Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Johnnie Sue Vess, our loving and devoted mother, and a friend to all whose lives she touched. April 12, 2021 at the age of 79, Johnnie Sue went to be with Jesus. She was born January 10, 1942 in Danville, Arkansas to Edgar Ray and Barbara Carrouth Ray. Johnnie was a homemaker and member of the Havana Assembly of God Church. She and her husband Doug Vess. Made a wonderful home for their three children and were loved by many in their community. Her hands were rarely still, and her servants' heart was always at work preparing her delicious meals with an open-door invitation. She made sure she had an extra seat at the table for anyone who wanted to eat with the family. Johnnie prepared some of the best food in the world and her home was a favorite when it came to overnight stays because she served homemade chocolate gravy and biscuits for breakfast on Saturday mornings.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doug, her brother JT Ray, and sister Mary McConnell. Johnnie is survived by her daughter, Shela Vess Schemel (Larry), Springdale; daughter Lisa Vess Powell (Bob), Danville; son, Rocky Vess (Penny), Casa. Johnnie has 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers: Dustin Powell, Jacob Powell, Alex Schemel, Evan Vess, Colton Vess, Josh Pitts, Blake Pitts, and Brendan Daugherty.

A visitation at Cornwell Funeral Home will be held on Friday April 16 th between 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

A graveside celebration of Johnnie's life service is planned on Saturday April 17 th , 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Havana Cemetery with Bro. Stacey Lisenbey officitaing
