Obituary

Joseph Franklin Jones, Jr., 93, passed away on May 25, 2022, at his home in Russellville.

Joe was born May 5, 1929 in Abita Springs, Louisiana to his parents, Joseph and Lucy Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents of Harrison; wife, Marilyn Jones; daughter, Jana Bea Jones; and sister-in-law, Betty Moore, all of Russellville.

Joe is survived by his children, Joseph Andrew Jones and Amy Whorton (Greg) of Russellville; Dan Jones of West Palm Beach, Florida; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brother-in law, Bob Moore and sister-in-law, Katherine Bowden, both of Russellville; brother-in-law, James Nunn of Camino Island, Washington; and many loved nieces and nephews.

After attending high school in Harrison, Arkansas, where he loved playing football, Joe worked constructing the Bull Shoals Dam. Joe joined the National Guard and was deployed to the Korean War as a battalion motor sergeant. After the war, Joe traveled the country as a journeyman iron worker.

Then, Joe attended Arkansas Tech University where he was awarded an Associate of Science and, more importantly, met Marilyn, his beloved wife of 62 years.  He then attended the University of Arkansas and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

In 1959, Joe began a cutting-edge career with Monsanto Chemical Company. Joe was a Professional Engineer in multiple states and considered an expert in the chemical industry leading the development and production of many products we use every day.   Upon his retirement, the family moved to Russellville, Arkansas where he enjoyed spending time in his shop and playing bridge. Joe's love of the engineering profession has been passed on to two more generations of Joneses.

The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice and Kindred Home Health for the care given to both Joe and Marilyn. A special thanks to Joy Giese for bringing us all "Joy" and peace of mind that Joe and Marilyn were in safe hands.

A private family service will be held at Fort Smith National Cemetery.
