Kathie Ann Freeman Short, age 62 of Pottsville, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. She was born June 3, 1960 in Danville, Arkansas to the late Charlie "Poor Boy" Freeman and Ida Bell Owens Freeman. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for Millard Henry Clinic for over 22 years and was currently employed by AR-1 DMAT since 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Alice Jean Freeman.
Survivors include her daughter, Marsha Lynn Short Griffith (Michael) of Pottsville; two grandchildren, Tripp and Linda Mobley of Havana; Madalynn Ann Keeling, who called her Grammy; her siblings, Linda and Thomas Stover of Perryville, Bradley D. Freeman of Dardanelle, Patsy Freeman of Flippen, Charlene Freeman of Atkins, Debbie and John McGibbin, Jimmy D. and wife Freeman and her close friends, Betty Kelley of Chickalah and Jackie Cates Moore of Russellville.
Kathie was a nurse at Millard Henry Clinic for 20 years for Dr. Mike Bell the General Surgeon.
Kathie started with AR-1 in the summer of 2000 as the Administrative Officer, then deploying to Tropical Storm Allison, the World Trade Center and the 2002 Olympics in Park City, UT in quick succession.
Kathie served as the primary Administrative Officer for over 20 years and deployed to the World Trade Center, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Matthew, Unaccompanied Children to name a few. She has supported our NDMS HQ on several projects and mentored fellow AOs. She embodied the selfless service that makes the National Disaster Medical System the family that it is.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at the First Assembly of God Church in Dardanelle with Rev. Tom Stover, Tim Tackett, David Moore and Madalynn Keeling officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. at the First Assembly of God Church in Dardanelle. Burial will be in Birta Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Furhman, Morgan Yates, Tim Tackett, Jason Cunningham, Leonard James and Bryan Clardy.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Doctors and Nurses at Millard Henry Clinic and members of ARI-DMAT.
