Obituary

Kenneth W. "Papa" Witt Sr. age 82 of Dardanelle died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at his home. He was born July 24, 1935 at Subiaco to the late James Madison and Verene McKinney Witt. Kenneth was a Navy Veteran, who joined in 1952 during the Korean War. He went to work in Connecticut for Pfizer and later General Electric and helped build some of the first Nuclear Submarines for the Navy, where he met his wife Jeanette Jacobs, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. They had five children, Kenneth Witt Jr., Karen Witt Shewmake, Marianne Witt, Lura Witt and Susan Witt Cuevas, he also adopted two grandsons, Rob Witt and JJ Witt, sons of Lura Witt. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lura Witt and a grandson, JJ Witt.

Kenneth retired from General Electric and moved back to Dardanelle, Arkansas to be closer to his family. He was very active with the Dardanelle VFW Post 3141, member of the American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Yell County Wildlife Federation and NRA. Kenneth was very helpful to a lot of local young men and women who joined the military. He helped organize numerous events for veterans returning home, support for the men and women going to the Persian Gulf Wars and Afghanistan. He also has two grandsons who fought in these wars and returned home. Kenneth served as a member of the Honor Guard and Commander for Dardanelle VFW Post 3141 for many years.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Jeanette Witt; his children, Kenneth Witt Jr. (Nanette), Karen Witt Shewmake (Wayne), Marianne Witt, Susan Witt Cuevas (Johnny), Rob Witt (Erika), daughter in law Alicia Witt; several grandchildren; sisters, June Witt Rogers of Scranton, Lura Witt Moody of Fort Smith, Roxie Witt Etzkorn of Dardanelle; brother, James Lee Witt of Dardanelle and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00P.M., Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle. Burial will be in Brearley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, 1:00P.M. to 2:00P.M. at the chapel prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Kane, Robbie Witt, Kenneth Witt Jr., Dustin Kane, Wayne Shewmake, and Matthew Witt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Dardanelle VFW Post 3141.
