Obituary

Kevin Loyd Underwood, age 58 of Dardanelle, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at his home after a brave and hard-fought battle with ALS. He was born June 27, 1966 in Dardanelle, Arkansas to Leon Underwood and Dorothy Pledger Underwood.

Kevin Loyd Underwood was a devoted husband of 26 years, a loving dad of 25 years, and a proud Pappy of 15 years. He was a son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, friend, and a father figure to many.

Kevin's love for the Lord took root at an early age, shaping his life and leading him to serve as a deacon at Delaware First Baptist Church for 16 years. Though he often said he wasn't book smart, his deep and unwavering knowledge of the Bible told a different story.

He was a master-certified mechanic at Phil Wright Auto for 10 years before joining his family's business, Wurst Machine and Welding, where he worked for 27 years. A true "yes" man, Kevin never hesitated to help anyone in need—whether it was fixing a car, filling in at church, lending a listening ear, or keeping a trusted secret.

Soft-spoken and even-tempered, Kevin was a man of few but wise words. You knew him through his heart. His sense of humor, kid-like grin, and unmistakable laughter brought joy to those around him. He had a way of making people smile, whether through a well-timed joke or simply by being himself.

His love for history was reflected in his cherished collections of automobiles, stamps, and coins. A gifted artist from a young age, he had a natural talent for creativity.

Above all, Kevin loved his family. He made it a point to make every holiday and birthday special. His presence was a blessing, and his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched.

A heartfelt thank you to Duane and Treasea Ray for their matchmaking skills, which brought so much love and joy into Kevin's life. We also cherish the friendship that blossomed in his final years with Blaise and Judy Andrepont.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Leon Underwood; brother, Leon Underwood, Jr. and two sisters, Susan Underwood and Lisa Wesley.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth D. Bailey Underwood; mother, Dorothy Pledger-Underwood, one daughter, Julia Underwood and Kyle Hanson; brothers, Steve and Elaine Underwood, Travis and Suzie Underwood, Josh Wesley; three grandchildren, Elizabella Marie Underwood, Christine Evelyn Dawn Hanson, Soren John Loyd Hanson and other family members, Johnny and Marie Norris, Tony and Melissa Norris, Rich and Shannon Bailey, James and Amanda Bailey, Monica Norris, Sherri Bailey and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and a fur buddy, Ozzie.
