Khamphou Kham
Phonthongsy
May 11, 1970 – February 14, 2025
Kham Phou Phonthongsy, age 54 of Ft. Collins, Colorado, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 11, 1970 in Luang Prabang, Laos to Chanpheng Syphanthong and Khamda Phonthongsy. After coming to the United States with his mother, sister, and step-father during the Vietnam War, he made Colorado his home. There, he started his own family, a thriving bathtub refinishing business, and found fulfillment through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Kham was an avid hunter and fisherman, but loved any activity that allowed him to be outdoors, including skateboarding and soccer. He shared many of these activities with his children by coaching their soccer teams, taking them on frequent bike rides, and teaching them to fish as they grew up. Kham loved Northern Colorado, often waking up at 3am and driving hours while playing Bob Marley to take his children on fishing trips to Red Feather Lakes, or just to walk around Ft. Collins. He worked hard to build a sense of gratitude, kindness, and whimsy in his own life and the lives of others. Even through life's many trials and transitions, he continued a message of optimism, firmly believing in forgiveness and understanding. He is remembered as a loving father, brother, son, and friend.
Kham is survived by his five children, including Hyacinth Phonthongsy Moya, Kordalia Phonthongsy, and Preston Phonthongsy. As well as his mother Khamda Phonthongsy, his sister Sisudachanh Phonthongsy (Phouthone Chanthaboula), and two brothers.
In memorial to Kham, we only ask that you take a moment and listen to Three Little Birds by Bob Marley & the Wailers.
