Obituary

Laveta Jewell Keeton, "Hootie", age 89 of Maumelle died Thursday, July 31, 2014. Mom was born December 1, 1924 at Russellville to the late Walter Herbert and Leona Eubanks Nichols. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in West Memphis, a 1942 graduate of Dardanelle high School, and Arkansas Tech where she earned a BSE and a Masters in Elementary Education Mother utilized her education as fifth grade teacher for thirty years at Bragg Elementary, West Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LTC, James W. Keeton and one sister Juanita McGuire. Those left behind are one son, James Stephen, four granddaughters, Heather Welch, Ashley Capel, Lindsey Johnson and Whitney Keeton, plus, five great grandchildren. Reverend Chris Hemund will hold a graveside service at Brearley Cemetery in Dardanelle, Arkansas. Services will begin at Cornwell Funeral Home in Dardanelle at 10:00 for a short visitation, then moving to Brearley. Following the services, the family invites you to a luncheon at the Methodist Church, Dardanelle. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, West Memphis, Arkansas.
