Lillian M. Vodrazka of Dardanelle, age 100, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Orange Coast Memorial Hospital in Fountain Valley, California with her family at her bedside. Lillian was born in Dardanelle, Arkansas on Feb. 04, 1911 to Frank J. and Cina Balloun who preceded her in death. Also, preceding her in death was her husband, George J. Vodrazka, her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Charles and Mary Vodrazka of Chicago, IL, her brothers-in-law: Frank (Emma) Reznik of Cicero, IL, Henry (Adeline) Vodrazka of Berwyn, IL, sister-in-law, Elsie (Eman) Krinner of Denver, CO, four brothers: Antone (Frances) Balloun, Henry (Josephine) Balloun, Frank (Mary) Balloun and Hugh (Kate) Balloun of Dardanelle. As a child and young woman, she studied, worked alongside her parents and brothers on their farm in Dardanelle and learned to play the piano. She was a member of a small band which played at dances and Bohemian functions. She graduated as Valedictorian from Dardanelle High School in 1928 and received a Freshman Scholarship from the University of Arkansas which she declined in favor of continuing her piano education in Chicago, Illinois. While in Chicago, she met her future husband, George J. Vodrazka and they married in 1934. They had one child, Judith. Lillian became a Bookkeeper for a Chicago Department store and remained as their chief Bookkeeper until her retirement at age 62. She managed during these years to not only work at a full time job, but help her husband in his business, help her father-in-law with his business and care for her elderly mother-in law while raising their daughter. She did a great job. After their retirement, she and George moved to Dardanelle and built a home. They thoroughly enjoyed their retirement years. George passed away in 1989 and Lillian remained in Dardanelle until 2008 when she moved to Huntington Beach, CA to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She returned to Dardanelle with her daughter and son-in-law each Spring and Fall to stay at her home and visit with her family. Lillian loved to sew, garden, cook, read and do crossword puzzles, but most of all she loved her family and her faith. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Dardanelle. She is survived by her daughter, Judith (David) Vogel of Huntington Beach,CA, her granddaughter, Lisa (Jeff) Graff of Mission Viejo, CA and two great grand children, Donna and Chad Graff of Mission Viejo, CA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Barbara Ray, Irvin Balloun, Bobby (Kathleen) Balloun and Lynn (Sharon) Balloun of Dardanelle, Lillie Jo (Don) Gray of Stuttgart, Dorothy (Bud) Broaddrick of Little Rock, Don (Yvonne) Balloun of Saint Augustine, Fl,, Marilyn (Lyle) Bauer of Strasburg, CO, Margo Rubel of Orcas Island, WA and Delphine Pankonin of Tinley Park, IL. There are also many great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Irvin Balloun, Bobby Balloun, Lynn Balloun, Jeff Ray, Frank Ray and Steve Balloun. Honorary Pallbearers are Don Balloun, Bud Broaddrick and Jay Fugatt. Visitation will be held at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 4:30P.M. to 6:00P.M. Rosary will follow at the Chapel at 6:00 PM. Visitation will also be held at the chapel on Sunday, 4:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. Funeral Mass will be held on Mon. Dec. 05, 2011 at 10:00A.M. at St. Augustine Catholic Church officiated by Fr. Clayton Gould. Burial will take place at Brearley Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass.
