Mary Nell Smith Bates age 85 of Plainview, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at her home. She was born July 10, 1937 in Plainview, Arkansas to the late Allen Smith and Jessie Staggs Smith. She was a member of the Jesus Name Pentecostal Church in Plainview and she was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Bates; son, Tommy Via; brother, Robert Lee Smith and a sister, Peggy Sue Stewart.

Survivors include two children, Sharon Burfield (Tony) of Plainview, Larry "Dewayne" Bates (Ginny) of Harlen, Georgia; one brother, Billy Charles Smith of Danville; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
