Mary Augusta
Cody
October 7, 1940 – September 24, 2025
Mary Augusta (Jones) Cody, of Rose Creek, was escorted by angels from this earth on September 24th, 13 days before her 85th birthday. She was born at home on Petit Jean Mountain, October 7, 1940 to the late Walter William Sr. and Eva Mae (West) Jones. She graduated from Morrilton High School in 1958 after attending the Oppelo School from 1st to 6th grades. In October 1958, she married her husband, James "Hub" Cody. She worked for a few years early in their marriage at Levi Strauss and Sterlings in Morrilton before becoming a stay-at-home mom and working side by side with her husband in the family sod farm, Cody Brothers Grass Farm. She was a 55-year member of the Hickory Grove Freewill Baptist Church where she was a faithful member and sang in a church quartet for many years traveling to singings from church to church, taught the teenage Sunday School Class, oversaw church Christmas programs, and helped with Vacation Bible Schools. For fun she loved to sew and made some of the most beautiful, frilly little girl dresses you ever saw until arthritis made it too painful. She loved being outside, cats, making coconut cream pies, Sonic Ice, Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper, and people. She made the BEST homemade yeast rolls! She loved to go-anywhere, anytime. Her husband always said, "If you drop the tailgate, she'll get in." For those of you who don't know what that means, talk to someone who hunts with dogs and they'll explain it. AND she was a hugger! If she liked you, you were getting one. Most of all, she loved her kids and grandkids unconditionally. She had kids underfoot until she just physically couldn't do it anymore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Eva Mae Jones, and husband of 62 years, James "Hub" Cody, who passed away in February 2021.
She is survived by her 3 children, two daughters, Jeanenne (Ernie) Cook, and Penny (Rocky) Vess; one son, James Harold Cody, all of Rose Creek. One sister, Anna (Bob) Cody of Rose Creek and one brother, Walt (Pam) Jones of Benton.
She was "Mamaw" to 8 grandkids and 13 great grandkids. Grandkids are: DeAnn (John) McGrew of Conway, ReAnna McGrew of Conway, Tiffany (Craig) Kilburn of Russellville, AJ Cody of Rose Creek, Josh (Lindsey) Pitts of Conway, Blake (Kristen) Pitts of Oppelo, Evan (Halley) Vess of Little Rock, and Colton Vess (Alayna) of Conway. Great grandkids: Ivy, Maddie and Emma McGrew; Brady Fowler; Lex Harwell; Hallie and Briar Cody; Savvy and Jagger Pitts; Dawson Ryan, Waylon and Emory Pitts; and Rhett Vess.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Dardanelle. Visitation will be held Saturday, 10:00A.M. to 11:00A.M. at the chapel prior to the service. Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery in Rose Creek.
Pallbearers will be John McGrew, Josh Pitts, Blake Pitts, Evan Vess, Colton Vess, and AJ Cody.
