Obituary

Leo Bland, of the Moss Creek Community, died March 12, 2021 after a long battle with heart failure. He was 93 years old.

He was born June 17, 1927 at Belleville, Arkansas, to Loyd and Luna Denton Bland.

He was a retired farmer, poultryman and cattleman. He was an avid coon, coyote and fox hunter and a member of Wilson Free Will Baptist Church.

He was a veteran of World II serving with the 51 st Military Police Battalion in the south Pacific. After returning home in 1946, he farmed and coon hunted in Petit Jean Bottoms east of Danville.

In 1954 he went to work for Joe Ray in Danville. He worked in poultry management for Joe Ray, Allied Mills and Wayne Farms until 1989 when he retired to devote fulltime to his poultry and cattle farm on Highway 80 west of Danville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Martha Nell Lamb Bland, the mother of his children: and Emma Lee Gertsch Bland, the mother of his adopted children; a daughter, Martha Lee Bland Kirby and her husband, Leonard Kirby; a granddaughter, Kathy Lampkins Wilson; a grandson, Lynn Lampkins; a sister and her husband, Lois Marie Bland and Richard Lane; a sister Elva Dean Bland Farnsworth; a brother, Clarence Bland; a brother, James Bland and his wife, Pat Bland; a sister Faye Chappell and two nieces, Sharon Lane Harp and Selina Lane Kitchens and a very special friend and companion, Cherry Bedford of Muldrow, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his daughters and their husbands; Mary Sue and Garry Lee of Russellville; Linda Jean and Jerry Domerese of Danville, Sherry Lynn Ball of Danville; his sons, Don and his wife Linda Bland of Danville, and Billy Joe Bland of Danville. Also survived by grandsons, Chris Bland, Pledger Dale Ball, Brody Bland, Layton Lee and Chris Lee; granddaughters, Jeannie Domerese, Amanda Geels and Olivia Bland; sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and their wives Fred and Wanda Bland of Belleville, and Wayne and Dean Bland of Fort Smith; his sister and their husband, Mary and Dale Knight of Belleville, Sue and James Hood of Bryant and sister-in-law, Anita Bland of Belleville; along with many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

One special nephew, Tommy Lane, who was his coon-hunting buddy for the past forty years and called him every night to see how his day had been.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, March 15, 2021 at Russell Cemetery at Belleville, Arkansas, with Tommy Lane officiating.
