Mona Dell James age 86 of Havana, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 at her home. She was born in Waveland on December 26 1926 to Earl and Lily Weatherall. Mona went to school in Waveland until the age of 16 when a dapper fellow, Jr. Frederick swept her off her feet. They were married by Vernon Pierce for the bargain price of 25 cents. The Williams and Davis girls all come running and gathered outside the house as the reception party. She was lucky to find her second love, Glendon James in later years. They were fortunate to spend a blissful 7 years together full of comfort and peace. Mona was and excellent cook. After spending a day in the fields picking cotton she begged to stay home and at the age of 7 or 8 learn to cook for the family instead of working in the fields. Papa Earl had to build her a box so she would be tall enough to reach the top of the wood cook stove. This is how she began a life long love for cooking which earned her the reputation as the best cook in the family. Known best for her peanut butter cookies and pies. Mona worked as a waitress to support her family. She was avid outdoors woman, who was known for her skills in both hunting and fishing, that left most others envious. Mona was a wonderful caretaker, she looked after her father, her husbands, her sister and even her father in law. Mona was most remembered for her fiery red hair and bright blues eye, and the sauciness to back it up. God blessed her with a big heart, generous spirit, and a cheerful optimism. Quick to laugh but able to set you straight if need be. She was loved much by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as countless others. She will be greatly missed by all. We love you GG! Always and Forever. Preceded in death by her husbands John Frederick Jr. and Glendon James; parents; twin infant boys; brother Voyn Weatherall and sister Lula Mae Stokes. Survivors include daughters Marcia Dell Hockaday of Tomball, TX. and Sandra Lustig of Waveland; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include Shanin Holt, Seth Lane, Dan Lane, Marvin Wallace, John Hockaday, Alan Pettycord and Amos Pettycord. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Waveland Community Church with Pastor Judy Hall officiating. Burial will be at Moores Chapel Cemetery.
