Elder Roland Green
Roland Ulyss Green, age 87, joined his Heavenly Father in the early morning of October 21, 2011 in his home in Russellville.
On July 8, 1924, Roland Ulyss and his twin brother, Logan Arliss, were born to the late Asa Aaron and Lily Laura Loyd Green in Magazine, Arkansas. In 1954 Roland was ordained to the ministry and pastured churches in Alabama and Arkansas. In his final years, he was a member of the Point Remove Primitive Baptist Church in Russellville.
After 40 years as an educator in Alabama and Arkansas, Papa Green retired from the Dardanelle school system as the Senior and Junior High School choral director.
He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service in the European theater as a member of the U. S. Army during WWII.
Roland met his wife, Elaine Burton, while attending the College of the Ozarks at Clarksville, Arkansas and they were married in the college chapel on December 2, 1951. He received his B. A. in Music from C. of O. and his Masters degree from L. S. U.
Roland is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Evelyn McCaslin, Claudia Judkins, and Dulcie Cecil; by two brothers: Samuel Green and Ishmael Green.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Elaine Green, of Russellville; five children: Rolaine Heatherington and husband, John, of Towanda, KS, David Green and wife, Maria, of Little Rock, Philip Green of Greenwood, MS, Holly Ruth Gale and husband, John, of Russellville, Julia Kathleen Calloway and husband, Bryan, of Pine Bluff; three brothers: Garvin Green and wife, Lois, of Memphis, twin brother, Logan Green and wife ,Roberta, of Booneville, Alfred Green and wife ,Marianne, of Bella Vista; one sister: Alma Newsome of Baton Rouge; four granddaughters: Abigail Green, Talley Beth Gale, Ian Kathleen Gale, Anna Grace Heatherington; three grandsons: Benjamin Roland Green, Reuben Green, John Robert Heatherington.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am at Cornwell Funeral Home Chapel, Dardanelle, AR. Burial will in Evans Cemetery in Magazine, AR. Graveside service at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be held from 6:00 8:00 pm Monday at Cornwell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers: David Green, Philip Green, Benjamin Green, Reuben Green, John Robert Heatherington, Bryan Calloway, John Gale, John Heatherington.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be given to Arkansas Dept. of Health Hospice Program, 404 N. El Paso, Russellville, Arkansas 72801, or Point Remove Primitive Baptist Church, 510 N. Knoxville, Russellville, AR.
