Obituary

Roy Doyle James, a proud veteran of the United State Air Force, passed away peacefully after a life marked by dedication, service, and honor.

Born February 12, 1955, Roy answered the call to serve his country by entering active duty on June 18, 1973. Over the course of more than 22years of distinguished service, he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6), demonstrating leadership, commitment, and professionalism throughout his military career.

Roy served as a Security Police Supervisor, a role that required vigilance, discipline, and integrity. His assignments took him across the globe, including service at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma and participation in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Durning his tenure at the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1990, he earned the commendation of General Colin Powell, who recognized Roy's immeasurable contributions during critical period in the nation's history.

Throughout is career, Roy earned numerous honors and commendations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force commendation Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

He also completed advanced military education, including the USAF Senior NCO Academy, reflecting his dedication to personal and professional growth.

Roy retired honorably from the United States Air force on July 30, 1995, leaving a legacy of faithful service and sacrifice. Beyond his military accomplishments, he will be remembered for his strength of character, sense of duty, and quiet pride in serving his country. That same generous spirit carried into his community, where he donated camping supplies to the local Club Scouts, giving young people the fools to explore the world beyond their doorstep.

A collector at heart, Roy had a passion for coin collecting and generously shared that love with his family, giving commemorative coins on birthdays and special occasions gifts that held sentimental value.

He is survived by his mother, Wanda Amstrong, his sister, Vickie Welch, and her husband Barney Welch, his nephew, Jason Griffith and his wife Michelle; his nice Ashley Griffith and her wife Andrea Martin; and his great-niece Tori Griffith.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

Memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the Moores Chapel Cemetery with Military Honors and W.A. Gorman officiating.
