Tomela Keenan

Tomela Wright Keenan, 96, daughter of the late Tom and Lela Wright, died February 7, 2017 in Dardanelle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Keenan, son, Daniel Wright Keenan, and grandson, Adam Taylor.  Brothers, McKenzie, Ernest, and Ury Wright.  Sisters, Mary Boone and Charlie Mae Wright.  She is survived by her son Robert Keenan, Jr and daughter, Kathy Keenan Price, four grandchildren, John Taylor, Katie Rawlings (Wes), Mary Price, and Will Price.  Great grandchildren, Tallulah, Clementine, and Howell Taylor, and Keenan and Camille Rawlings.

She attended Arkansas Tech, the University of Missouri, and graduated from Draughn's Business College in Houston, Texas.  She was a veteran of World War II where she served in the Navy as a WAVE in Naval Intelligence.   She was past president of the Dardanelle Garden Club and Arkansas Oklahoma Port Association. She was Chairman of the Yell County Crippled Association for 5 years, on the White House Council for Youth, a Boy Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader. Tomela was a fund raiser for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Legion, Easter Seals, Cancer and Heart Associations, River Valley Arts Center, and the Arkansas Arts Center. She also served on the ATU Alumni Board. She was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She served on the State Board of Presbyterian Women and was also chairman of the district Presbyterian Women.  She was one of the original organizers of the Mt Nebo Sunday School and served as its first Superintendent.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00P.M., Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Brearley Cemetery in Dardanelle.
